Travel Channel’s “Taste of America with Mark DeCarlo”

A behind the scenes Foodie Travel Guide with over 40 previously unpublished recipes, from Waffle House Chili to Commander’s Palace Turtle Soup.  A hilarious road trip guide, filled with travel tips, undiscovered must-eat joints, and the funny and passionate people who churn out the delicious grub.  For 5 years on the road, shooting this hit Travel Channel series, Mark befriended many characters and chefs, but in only 30 minutes a week, there was no way to share all the juicy details… until this book. A funny, touching, informative story of America – who we are, what we eat… and why, that stretches from coast to coast, covering over 400 cities.  The reviews are in – and they’re great:

4.0 out of 5 stars I Really Enjoyed This, By Tom Johnson
I don’t want to make too big a deal out of this, but this book is a love letter to Americans in the same way as John Steinbeck’s “Travels With Charlie.” DeCarlo’s no Steinbeck, of course, but he’s an affectionate observer of character and — as a comedian — a funny storyteller.  I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book. I liked the episodic informality of it, the pure-entertainment sidebars, even the pictures. It’s one of the most entertaining books I’ve read in a long time. It made me feel really good about this country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purely perfect!  The Golf God
A wonderful read that touches the heart on so many levels—from key lime pie stories that inspired a trip to Florida to laugh-out-loud confessions about Mark’s boat phobias–this is a great, great read. I was a huge fan of the show and the book is even better…Buy the book and grab a fork.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous!,  Andrew “aapca” (New York, NY)
“A Fork On The Road” makes you want to get up off your butt and go discover what’s best, funniest, weirdest, and most delicious about this great country. DeCarlo writes with ease, humor, and confidence. His honest love for the people, places, and foods he comes across is evident on every page. He was lucky enough to have these amazing experiences for four years while making his TV show. Now we’re lucky to be able to read about them. Buy this book, people.
